Breakout Day
July 1 is Festival Breakout Day and Canada Day, a national holiday on which Canada celebrates the 141th anniversary of our birth as a nation. Celebrations will be underway in every village, town, and city across the country!
For July 1, the festival provides choirs with a breakfast on campus and a brown-bag lunch (as choirs typically leave campus right after breakfast for a day of sightseeing). Choirs provide their own dinner for this day.
Breakout Day is a day for visiting choirs to arrange their own activities. We encourage all choirs to visit some of the many tourist attractions in and around Burnaby and Vancouver. With careful planning, choirs could arrange a full-day trip to Victoria on Vancouver Island, Hell's Gate in the Fraser River Canyon, or the site of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Whistler Village.
All Breakout Day activity costs are the responsibility of each choir. Our travel partner, Ellison Travel and Tours Ltd, can assist in booking charter buses or school buses, and locating group rates for such well-known and popular tourist attractions as Burnaby Village Museum, Stanley Park, the Vancouver Aquarium, Capilano Suspension Bridge, Grouse Mountain Skyride, Granville Island Market, the Science Centre, the Museum of Anthropology at UBC, whale-watching excursions, and much, much more.
There are many shopping centres in the Burnaby area including the Brentwood Town Centre Mall, The Lougheed Town Centre and Metrotown. Metrotown is the largest mall in the area. Be sure to visit the mall's visitor information centre for discount cards and other mall promotions.
