Pacific Wind Ensemble
Audiences have been moved by Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble (PSWE) since the group was founded in 1981.
This dedicated collective of professional musicians, music educators and outstanding amateur players is creating a new kind of instrumental concert music. With cutting edge repertoire and freshly composed works alongside traditional wind ensemble music, one listener remarked, “You take us way out beyond the music we know and push us as listeners, then bring us gently back again to the stuff we know and love.”
PSWE has been featured on CBC Radio Two and has performed at local and national band festivals and events. One highlight for the group occurred in 2005 when they were invited to perform in Singapore at the prestigious World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles conference.
With music director Marc Crompton, PSWE is in residence at the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam, British Columbia, where they present an innovative and interesting subscription series of concerts. Crompton and PSWE have world premiered nine new major works for wind ensemble since 2001.
Just released in February, is Trajectories: Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble plays the music of Fred Stride. Some thrilling performances on this recording feature Jens Lindemann, trumpet, and David Branter, tenor saxophone.
Other CD’s by PSWE are Midnight Sleigh Ride, Mazama, and Festivo.
